Responsibilities
- Operate and drive lighter, special purpose trucks for transporting goods.
- Drive as part of a two-person team or convoy to cover long distances.
- Ensure cargo safety and security using proper tarping and securement techniques.
- Transport and handle dangerous goods as per safety protocols.
- Record detailed trip information, including hours of service, distance traveled, and fuel usage.
- Relay trip and cargo information to central dispatch accurately.
Safely and quickly load and unload freight. - Check the car before, during, and after the journey, and be in charge of everything about it.
Do regular maintenance and little roadside repairs in case of an emergency. - Keep a professional and customer-focused attitude at all times.
Requirements
Education:You need to have graduated from high school or secondary school.
Experience: 1–7 months of experience driving for a living.
Skills:
- Proficiency in vehicle inspection and preventive maintenance.
- The ability to make emergency repairs on the side of the road.
- Good in loading, unloading, and securing goods.
- Effective communication with dispatch and team members.
- Strong attention to detail for recording trip logs and safety checks.
Knowledge:
- Familiarity with handling and transporting dangerous goods.
- Understanding of brake systems and brake adjustments.
- Knowledge of cargo documentation such as trip logs and fuel usage reports.
- Awareness of safety protocols during pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
- Compliance with Canadian transport legislation and norms.
