Better Eggs Limited is looking for someone experienced and hands-on to take charge of their layer poultry farm in Whakamaru, South Waikato. This is a full-time role and ideal for someone who’s worked in poultry before and knows the ins and outs of daily operations. You’ll be responsible for making sure the hens are well looked after, biosecurity is in place, and the team is working smoothly. It’s not just a job about ticking boxes — they’re after someone who takes pride in doing things properly and can spot a problem before it becomes one. The salary range sits between $66,560 and $98,800 a year depending on your experience. Expect to work a minimum of 45 hours per week, and you’ll be reporting to the Livestock Manager.

Job Title
Poultry Farm Manager – Layer.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all daily activities on the farm including feeding, housing, and general hen care.
- Make sure strict biosecurity processes are followed to keep the flock safe.
- Keep track of egg production, making sure targets are met without compromising welfare.
- Lead and manage a small team — train new staff and support ongoing performance.
- Keep accurate records of flock health, stock levels, and production using the company’s system.
- Work alongside vets, nutritionists, and other farm specialists when needed.
- Report updates, risks, and plans to senior leadership as required.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education
Formal qualifications are not required, but a degree in Agriculture, Animal Science, or similar would be a bonus.
Experience
At least 5 years working in poultry, preferably in layer production and in a management role. Experience in free-range is an advantage.
Skills
- Strong communication and leadership style.
- Confident with decisions and taking responsibility.

- Strong sense of animal welfare and practical safety.
