Responsibilities

  • Drive residents to outings and medical appointments.
  • Use both the van and Cadillac depending on the trip.
  • Keep vehicles clean and safe.
  • Follow the route, check the schedule, and be ready for changes.
  • Help residents in and out of the vehicle when needed.
  • Report any issues with the car or trip.
  • Stay on top of safety, especially when driving groups.
  • Talk to staff and residents clearly and kindly.

Requirements and Qualifications

Education

High school diploma or GED.

Experience

2 years of driving experience (or a solid equivalent).

Licenses

  • Valid CA Class B license with passenger endorsement.
  • First Aid certificate within 90 days (from AHA).

Skills

  • Can read safety instructions and trip schedules.
  • Speaks and understands English clearly.
  • Friendly and steady under pressure.
  • Basic math — for time, routes, and logs.
  • Stays calm around older adults.

Knowledge

  • Knows how to handle group driving safely.
  • Can spot vehicle issues before they become a problem.
  • Familiar with how to help residents with mobility challenges.
  • Understands traffic rules and DMV safety guidelines.
  • Good at keeping a driving log or checklist.
