Job Title

Dairy Farm Assistant

Responsibilities

  • Milk 700 cows in a 54-bail rotary dairy with a Protrack drafting system.
  • Help with calving and check cow health during spring season.
  • Manage effluent systems to keep the farm environmentally compliant.
  • Feed cows and handle basic farm upkeep tasks.
  • Spray weeds and fix fences across the 281-hectare property.
  • Work alongside three team members to hit milk production targets.
  • Follow biosecurity rules to keep livestock safe.
  • Drive ATVs or other farm vehicles for daily chores.
  • Keep clear records of milking and animal health checks.
  • Guide new staff on tasks like milking or fencing when needed.
  • Report equipment issues, like rotary breakdowns, to the farm manager.
  • Assist with pasture care to support healthy grazing.
  • Follow safety rules for all farm work.
  • Take on extra jobs as assigned by supervisors.

Requirements

Education

 High school diploma or equivalent. Any dairy farming or animal care training is a bonus but not required.

Experience

 1-3 years on dairy farms, ideally with milking or calving experience. Other farm work counts as a plus.

Skills

  • Practical ability to handle milking and farm tasks.
  • Clear communication to get along with the team.
  • Physical fitness for long hours and outdoor jobs.
