Job Title

Dairy Farm Assistant

Responsibilities

• Helping out with milking routines—mainly in a rotary cowshed
• Keeping an eye on animal health and reporting any issues
• Feeding stock and managing feed pads
• Operating farm gear like tractors and bikes
• Basic gear maintenance and shed hygiene
• Supporting calving and other seasonal jobs
• Taking part in pasture walks and feed planning
• Keeping accurate records for stock and pasture
• Helping with irrigation where needed
• Making sure safety procedures are followed every day
• Lending a hand during vet visits or herd testing
• Checking and fixing fences when needed
• Being part of a team that works together and communicates well
• Taking direction from the Farm Manager and learning on the go
• Pitching in wherever needed—this is a team environment

Requirements and Qualifications

Education

• No formal qualification is required
• Any farm-related course or training would be helpful

Experience

• At least 1 year working on a dairy or mixed-use farm
• Calving or milking experience is ideal

Skills

• Physically fit and okay with early mornings and outdoor work
• Can handle farm bikes, tractors, or loaders safely
• Attention to detail when it comes to animal care
• Good communicator and reliable team player
• Time-conscious and safety-aware

Knowledge

• Basic understanding of dairy operations
• Familiar with farm safety practices
• Knows how to spot common animal health issues
• Understands pasture growth and feed budgeting basics
• Has used farm tech like Halter or similar systems
