Responsibilities
- Help residents with basic care routines like bathing, dressing, or brushing hair.
- Support residents who need help moving around safely.
- Keep an eye out for anything unusual and let the nurse or supervisor know.
- Help with meals—prepping, serving, or assisting as needed.
- Keep rooms tidy and common areas clean.
- Spend time talking with residents and being a friendly face.
- Follow care instructions and update any notes as required.
- Stick to safety rules, especially with hygiene and cleaning.
- Show respect for each person’s space and privacy.
- Help where needed—sometimes it means laundry or making beds.
- Be part of the team and lend a hand when others need it.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education
- Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 2–4), or similar qualification.
- Nursing diplomas (local or overseas) are also acceptable.
Experience
- Experience in caregiving or working with older adults is a plus.
- Willingness to learn is just as important.
Skills
- Clear communicator and good listener
- Kind, patient, and dependable
- Can manage tasks without needing constant direction
- Works well with others but okay working solo too
- Good attention to detail, especially for hygiene and safety
- Comfortable with physical tasks
Knowledge
- Basic understanding of aged care routines.
- Some knowledge about dementia or elderly conditions.
- Knows how to handle personal care respectfully.
- Familiar with health and safety basics.
- Understands how to treat people with dignity.
- Knows how to spot when something isn’t right.
