Welder
Responsibilities
- Weld steel and cast iron with GMAW, SMAW, or FCAW.
- Build parts using sketches or shop drawings.
- Fix Caterpillar equipment to hit quality and time goals.
- Use electric and acetylene welders safely.
- Take apart and put together machine parts for repairs.
- Check welds to make sure they’re done right.
- Track materials used for building parts.
- Keep the shop clean and hazard-free.
- Stick to all safety rules every day.
- Run semi-automatic or burning tools as needed.
- Talk with customers to keep them happy.
- Report broken tools or low stock fast.
- Help with line-boring tasks when asked.
- Write down work details for shop records.
- Guide newer welders if needed.
Requirements
Education
A welding diploma from a trade school or similar certification is a must. CWB or Red Seal certification is a big plus.
Experience
2-4 years welding in a shop or service setting is required. Experience with line-boring is an advantage.
Skills
- Good with GMAW, SMAW, and FCAW welding.
- Pays close attention to weld quality.
- Can read blueprints and sketches well.
- Works safely even with tight deadlines.
- Strong enough to lift heavy parts and stand all day.
- Talks clearly with team and customers.
Knowledge
- Knows welding safety rules by heart.
- Understands how to repair Caterpillar gear.
- Familiar with building and assembling parts.
- Knows how to check welds for quality.
